A Charming Review...

I recently received this poetic review of The Woman's Belly Book — I'm charmed! Say it out loud and see if you hear the poem as a rap:

The image in the mirror — the body that is me
I feel is looking good except my fat belly
My stomach sticks out, my pants are stretched tight
50 situps each day haven't put it right

Then I read a book that changes how I feel
My belly becomes my center and my soul is real
Centered in my fat white belly that I was taught to hate
are intuition, compassion and the ability to create.

Now I look into the mirror and smile
Breathing life deeply all the while
Thinking how wonderful my belly can look
After reading Lisa Sarasohn's book.

After careful thought and a little apprehension. I decided to give Mayan Abdominal Massage a try in an attempt to alleviate some gastric irregularities.

Since the belly is so vulnerable, and I'm more than a bit ticklish, I was a bit skittish, but decided that relief was worth a chance.

As it turns out, my "pooch" is being caused by the fact that my organs have all dropped due to weak ligaments and once the ligaments are strenghtened and the organs gently encouraged to seat properly, the "pooch" will resolve itself.

As for the tickle apprehension, the massage was deliciously relaxing, and the practioner was using firm enough pressure to quell any tickle response.

Just a thought for those who might want to try a new approach.

A sequel to the first comment...following my second session of Mayan Abdominal Massage, the circulation in my feet and legs and torso has improved remarkably. I am a wheelchair user with a severe mobility impairment, so this is truly an amazing development.

With circulation comes well-being and such...and a good massage is much more fun than taking pain meds.
